The Navman A300 Sport Tool is the first performance monitor developed with skiers in mind. All the information that makes skiing fun is displayed with GPS precision: Who was the fastest on the downhill run? Who’s got the highest mileage on the ski slope?
The Navman A300 is the first performance measuring tool developed specifically for skiers. If you’re a downhill or backcountry skier or snowboarder and you like to keep tabs on your speed, altitude, cumulative distance skied and other data, the A300 is for you. This small device, which attaches to your arm, uses GPS technology to track your movements with precise accuracy anywhere on the globe. And because the A300 excludes ski lift rides from distance calculations, you’ll get the most accurate measurement of your downhill exploits possible.
The A300’s simple, easy-to-use interface consists of only two buttons and a small, monochrome LCD readout. On it, you can view your current, maximum and average speeds. The unit also displays distance data that, as mentioned, can be programmed to exclude ski lift rides. The unit will automatically record up to 50 downhill runs so you can recall the elapsed time on each run later. Current altitude, as well as cumulative altitude readings are available, as well. And of course, the A300 tells the time and date (using a super-accurate GPS-based atomic clock!).
The A300 features changeable faceplates so you can dress it up to suite your style. Its diminutive size (79 x 78 x 27 millimeters) and weight (120 grams) means it is easy to wear with the included armband. Battery life via a single AA battery is rated at up to 10 hours and there is a handy battery life indicator on the LCD screen. The A300’s rubberized, water-resistant case is ready for adverse conditions.

Good but poor documentation
We been using this GPS unit to measure our horse rides. The display is a bit difficult to read while riding. The documentation clarifies very little and is not in depth at all. Scrolling through the various modes can be tedious. It does keep track of avg speed and max speed. We’ve yet to figure out how to easily start a new lap.
They could do a lot more to make the interface and documentation more user friendly.
Absolutely wonderful
Folks, if there’s anybody out there thinking of getting fit, breathing in some good air and maybe lose a pound or two, one of the best ways is to get out on your 2 pins. The problem i’ve always had is a little lack of motivation. With this gadget, everything changes. Knowing down to the exact yard what kind of progress you’re making does wonders for your motivation…..you’ll even be getting those training shoes on when it’s minus 2 and snowing a blizzard! I can’t recommend this device enough, go out and get one.
Neat but Flawed
FOR - Lightweight, attractive to look at and without the numerous unnecessary functions that many gadgets come with.
AGAINST - miscalculates urban times and distances due to loss of GPS signal
-screen difficult to read
-controls awkward when worn
-Navman do not reply to requests for advice/information not included in the manual
Just what I was looking for!
I wanted a GPS system that was not a watch (I already have one I love) and this was the perfect device! On a recent vacation to the west coast, I was able to run along the beaches and not worry about time and/or distance. Picks up the satellites without any problems so far. I’m very pleased!
